Art from Slovakia
Following her father’s footsteps, Saša Makarová continues the important tradition of art in her family. Her father was a well known painter in Slovakia, a fact which gave Saša Makarová’s deep-rooted love of paintings and stories a lot of room to grow. Born 1966 in Košice in Eastern Slovakia, she first studied restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, before moving to Vienna after the fall of the iron curtain. There she learned from Adolf Frohner at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
When entering Makarová’s “stages”, she shows us a fantastic world, a color novella that falls to the spectator’s feet; a mysterious unease floats over all this. Lines and sounds, colors and poetry represent moods and thoughts of a very personal view of human encounters, drawn in her own style and the adhesive affinity to expressive art in her work.
Saša Makarová lives and works in Vienna.
