Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy’s (PRIVA) female choir Balta was founded in 1999. Māra Marnauza is the artistic director and conductor of the choir. Students and graduates of PRIVA and other universities are the members of the choir.
Balta has participated repeatedly and very successfully in international competitions, e.g. the Latvian Song Festival (in 2003 and 2008).
The choir has broadened its vocal and artistic talent in several master-classes with famous conductors such as British choirmaster and composer Bob Chilcott, Czech choirmaster Alexander Vacek, and American composer and choirmaster Arthur Maud.
Balta has successfully toured and received recognition from professional musicians and reviewers as well as from the broader public in Latvia and other European countries.
Balta’s repertoire includes original pieces of classical and modern Latvian composers, Latvian folk music, and music of various styles and periods by different international composers.
