The violin trio Midrid consists of three young musicians – Cathy Sommer, Lee Taul, Sänni Noormets – who love to sing and play music together. All of the members are students at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, where they study Estonian folk music. Their main objective is to arrange old folk tunes in a more modern way, but they also perform their own compositions.
The idea for the band name came from a song called “Midrilind”, which tells the story of an imaginary fairytale bird. As inspiration for the band, the bird brings a touch of mystery and magic to their music.
